In November 2019 I made the much fraught over decision to leave Interflora. We had been a member since opening the shop in 2011 and it had always kept us very busy but because of this, I never had time to evolve the business.
My thinking at the time was to wait until after Christmas and Valentine’s Day before making exciting changes to the shop… but then Covid hit.
It’s only now, in 2022 that I feel comfortable and excited to make these long awaited changes. My vision is to evolve the shop into a one stop shop for all your flower and plant needs. And first on the list is to find wonderful, UK based, suppliers for gifts and plant accessories.
Here’s a look at a few companies that have arrived in the shop already!
Seedling Cards are award-winning products having been designed with the act of ‘giving back’ in mind from using recycled and biodegradable elements to sourcing local materials where possible. The seeds we use are British-grown and have all been chosen to to attract pollinators and help re-build their lost natural habitats.
Haws Watering Cans
Shell on Earth is a small family business run by husband and wife team Jordan & Caryl Andrews. They take the crushed whelk shells generated at their family’s seafood processing factory and recycle them for use in gardens and landscaping.
These crushed Whelk shells can be used on house plants and in the garden. We’ve them in Crushed and Super Crushed options and three different sizes.

As we approach the time when we start making our Christmas wreaths, it’s always fun spending time going down a Pinterest wormhole looking at other florists gorgeous wreaths!
There are so many talented florists out there, it’s a really joy looking at their work. This year we are launching our DIY wreath kits that encourage people to source their own foliage. With that in mind, here’s a selection of beautiful wreaths that have been created using English foliage.
This year, Valentine’s Day run up has had a very different feel. I decided to leave Interflora after 8 years in November for many reasons and as a result, we have around 150 fewer deliveries booked in for today and tomorrow…! Instead of spending our week prepping for the craziness Interflora brings, we’ve been creating stunning bouquets for customers to collect in the shop or that have been ordered on our website.
The shop’s now full of incredible, high quality flowers that we are so proud to sell and can’t wait for people to receive!
The highlight of a January morning is when we get our delivery of Mimosa. The vibrant yellow coloured balls and intoxicating floral scent helps this become a firm favourite with us and our customers. It’s only available for a short time which helps to make it even more special.
We use Mimosa in arrangements and bouquets but it’s equally as lovely when bought as a bunch for a vase.
Originally it was only found in the warm climates of Africa and Asia but it wasn’t long before Botanists and scientists took specimens and around 1820, managed to cultivate them in other parts of the world. Acacia trees started to pop up in France, Australia and Italy. It has been so well received in France that it a focal flower used in celebrations and parades in Spring.
The meaning of ‘Mimosa’ is tied to “sensibility” and is often connected to philosophers or problem solvers. It also means to literally “expand” your life whether referring to family, career or travel planning. In other cultures, mimosa is tied to “sensitivity” and is given in small bouquets as a gesture of mourning or sympathy. In the United States, the pretty yellow spheres have become symbolic as the official flower to “Women’s Day”.
We love making these Spring door wreaths! Each of our Spring wreaths are individually made using a selection of mixed bulbs. We use a mix of Hyacinths, Muscari, Narcissus, Crocus, Tulips mixed with Ivy, Cones and natural items.
If watered weekly, the different bulbs will flower over 2-3 weeks ensuring a wonderful welcome each time you return home.
In August 2017 our shop got taken over for the filming of Midsomer Murders! Season 20 Episode 5 ‘Til Death Do Us Part’.
We also had the privilege of providing the arrangements for scenes in a Bridal shop, Wedding Planners office, Wedding reception, the Catwalk show and the Kelly Brooks bridal bouquet. It was a busy couple of weeks but so enjoyable!
The episode got aired in the UK on Monday 6th 2020 and it was great fun seeing how it all came together.
Here are a few screen shots and advert’s that show our shop and flowers:
For those not as obsessed with these things as me, every year Pantone announce a colour that they predict will be THE colour of the year, last year was all about green, this year it's Ultraviolet.
Now, here at the Flower Boutique, I like to think we are a bit ahead of the game, so as soon as I saw the colour, my mind flew back to the Summer (very welcome now it's a balmy 8 degrees in the shop!) and to Rachel and James's wedding, which was all about the colour purple.
I mixed Scabious, Stocks, Lisianthus and Blueberry Roses, with Calla's and lots of foliage for a loose and garden style feel, and finished the bouquets off with lots of trailing tonal ribbon.
They also had a Chuppa, which was built by Rachel's Dad, and proved to be a lovely focal point not only for the ceremony, but for the dancing in the evening.
It was so much fun to do this wedding, and I am looking forward to many more next year.
While Lisa was busy creating a beautiful shower bouquet for her Bride and old school friend Danni, I was busy flowering for Rosie and Sebastian, who got married at Stoke Place. 2 Vans, 2 strong men and 2 tired florists later, it was all finished and we were back at the shop and on to the next!
A few weeks later an email dropped into my inbox and Rosie had sent over her professional photos, with a lovely thank you as well. I have to say it was my absolute pleasure to design their wedding flowers, her brief was scented Roses (for Rosie) and all thinks pink and pretty. I picked the best of the summer, the first Dahlias, Hydrangeas, Stocks, Astilbe, Astrantia and the most ruffly English Lisianthus I’ve ever seen. The result smelled amazing.
It was such a pleasure to be part of their day.
